*Spoiler alert for portals of etherealness*
First of all, thank you players and Immortals who did not hesitate when I told them I was in trouble. Everyone can be an A‐hole at times but people and Imms in these lands always help when you really need it.
Story time
I bought a lair in town and saw the portal for sell. Obviously I forgot about the note and thought it would be a nice piece of furniture in my lair. Dropped the portal in my new lair and Etherealness ensued. While in that state it is hard to move about and you can't clearly see our normal plain. Well done on the ethereal plain experience.
While stumbling around my portal disappeared. Turns out it is not furniture and expires like a piece of beef. You can drop one from your inventory if you bought two but they have the same expiration. I did not buy two at this time because I thought it would just look cool.
So there I am floating around town unable to say things, but I can tell a Justice I needed help. I tried a few portals in the lands, but they did not help. I tried buying another portal but the shopkeeper could not see me. I tried attacking a bunny. I even tried a purple portal where wisps come out, but I was stuck in a ghost like state. I could drink fountains, but I could not see the food I created. Fear set in, but an Immortal dropped a portal to help me out.
Inspired by my calamity I bought more to see if I could ghost through some nasty areas. I tried Winter, stepped in, dropped gate, got past nasties, but got stuck at ranger, he lets nothing through. Killed him, but other gate in inventory expired. New idea, the elusive hat.
That damn wizard hat.
Redhorn mountain is a nightmare, so got the key, opened door, enter portal, but forgot another locked door halfway to the hat. I can't do that group alone.
To sum it up, they are spendy, they expire, kinda fun and not game breaking.
Where I see these being most useful is for items like broach of wizardry. Gain access to Faction of magic, gate passed the ridiculously tough guards, and drop a gate by the easier to kill old man. Also Zodiac island. |

Awesome, I'm glad you had fun. I've got some more ideas for things I'd like to do with the ethereal plane, we were talking about having some ethereal monsters and having the ability to drop items while ethereal that become ethereal too. And having areas that only exist in the ethereal plane, accessed by entering a portal in certain rooms. We could make some more class skills or spells or cabal powers that use the ethereal plane also, if you come up with any ideas. |
