I say yes because I like the idea of having the races open to class selection. I've always disliked the race/class restriction. |

I said yes because we already have Gnome rangers, warriors, and thieves. Why not monk? |

With both this and the other "stone giant druid" thread, I did not see much substance to explain how exactly this improves the game. We have a page here that shows what players are playing - https://abandonedrealms.com/players/ - and gnome has three class options that are already at zero. gnome thief has not displaced halfling thief at all so I doubt gnome monk is going to do that either, after the novelty wears off and the player has gotten bored with it. Then we'll just have another zero in our players table. |

I voted no, and then considered it further. I could see myself making a gnome monk. |

Slith ranger is a really stupid idea, I believe I've even said why before.
Since halfling monks *were* introduced the same logic against implementing clearly no longer matters (a while back, I said halfling race didn't make sense since I couldn't see a small race grappling a giant).
But Dav has a solid point. Why implement something which will probably be a brief fad and then become a "0" on the players list? We already have psionicists largely abandoned save for maybe three characters at this point...
Furthermore, gnomes are far better as casters, and only a new player or somebody seeking a challenge tends to pick a physical class with a gnome. |

Let's not tell people their ideas are stupid. It's fine to have your own opinion, each and everyone is welcome to their own. No need to be that way about it. |

How is slith ranger stupid? Both sliths and stones lore specifically state that they like living in the wild.
Since AR is supposedly more focused on RP rather than PK, shouldn't lore accuracy take priority than PK balance?
You can even make them only able to camouflage in mountainous/rocky rooms only instead of forested rooms. IIRC, we already have rooms coded like this. |

Let’s not get distracted from the main reason this poll was created. Gnome monk for life. |

Four no's is pretty bad, even if the yes vote did get bandwagoned. That's not my idea of positive overwhelming support at all. There's definitely a contingent of players out there who don't like this. |

Unfortunately here, there is not enough discussion one way or the other why people voted the way they did, which makes this poll moot. |

I didn't feel the need to discuss the awesomeness of gnome monks. Some people disagree. Those people are objectively wrong. They also roll jotun paladins, beast rangers, and drow dks because they are more powerful than other race/class combos. |

In response to Deioped's question...
Slith don't have kick, and their dirt kick is inferior as well, which would make them gimp rangers.
As for the main topic...
As I said before... I don't see a gnome grappling somebody (which was why I didn't think halflings should be monks either). Gnomes even more so than halflings. |

There are many different ways to grapple, and I can certainly watch YouTube clips of 145 pound jujitsu practitioners taking down 200 pound muscle heads via grappling, sweeps, and transitions. |

I voted no because I think this would actually be a pretty OP combo.
I just played a human monk warlord. Monks are good.
A gnome monk would easily have over 1k hp and no vuln (due to monk physical resist).
Halfling monk is already really strong (best min-max pick) but gnome would be even better. |

Stiehl> I don't see a child grappling somebody who is nine feet tall to give a more relevant perspective of a small race grappling a giant.
Kalist> that's a good point though. When druids had barkskin Kikikale used it to basically ignore his fire vulnerability. (Though I have wondered why barrier and mana shield now block damage from attacks that hit a vulnerability, since that was a change made in my absence... Eloret was the cause of barrier not preventing blunt attacks from hitting gnomes) |

So gimp gnome grapple and buff gnome trip. Make it a tie your shoelaces trip. Gnomes are wise enough to be monks. Its less about size and more about tenacity. |
