There's been a terrible influx of awful RP names lately. Even if it's an imm testing something, should we even entertain a name such as Tank popping in? (No making that up, either, Tank was an actual name). |
Absolutely not! |

(maybe could make it so a poll doesn't need to have a message since it's just a first comment when the subject of the poll is already in Poll Question) |

I'm in favor of this, because even if you can't come up with one, when it asks you, are you sure this is the name you want, if you type no, it spits out a shit ton of random names that you can either use or use to help you make a name. being new isn't that much of an excuse. |

When you see a crappy name, log a COMPLAINT. |

Just log a complaint and then ignore it. We'll take care of it. Some players that had terrible names like that ended up sticking around and are doing okay. |

I'd probably rename Tank but it goes up my ass sideways when someone flips out because some guy in Brazil picked the name "Loreal" and someone remembers an 80s shampoo commercial. That's the kind of shit we don't need. Imagine if we renamed one of your characters because you chose a name that just happened to be a brand name of toilet paper in Iraq.
There are a lot of edge cases too like what if someone wants to make a gnome named "Ananaz"? I'd let that fly unless he was doing stupid shit in his desc like describing himself as having a green spiky mohawk and yellow skin. But I think a lot of the time someone just goes "welp them's the rules" and bothers a guy when he's not even causing a problem for anybody and nobody really minds.
People get attached to their names man, a whole character can be behind the name. That's what your enemies see when they type "who pk" and it's what the imms will see on your cabal application. A name can be a big deal for some people. |

That's what I mean, Nyc, just the blatant names. There's plenty that slide and is all good. Take Goron for instance, goron is a race in Zelda lol! Lordoran, of course paying homage to Warcraft, and he was a 4th rank Knight haha! I suppose this is just serving as a reminder to not be dumb, people. |

The Imms review the name of each and every character when we check your description. If the name break the guidelines in HELP NAME we make you change it. If one falls through the cracks we rely on you guys to log a COMPLAINT so that we can take another look. |

sorry, I was one of the people who complained about loreal, I don't remember flipping shit though other than posting one complaint using the proper channels. but pretty sure it takes more than just one person to get something like that changed. It wasn't just some 80's commercial though eh

800k employees seems a bit more prominent than an 80's commercial. just throwing that out there but other than that I Do agree with what you say, I tend to think more on the name of my chars than backgrounds desc etc. |

It's borderline. I'm sure not everybody thought of the shampoo company when they saw the name.
I don't think you should ever not report a name that's bothering you. You shouldn't just put up with it.
But you shouldn't report a name if it doesn't bother you. If someone has a borderline name and it isn't making you have less fun, leave it be. If it's making you have less fun, you should report it.
I'm interested: did the name "Loreal" actually bother you, or did you just report it because you thought it was against the rules?
(also incidentally I don't remember a Loreal character or someone renaming it, I actually made that up off the top of my head because I thought it would be a good example) |

Loreal created on 15th of December 2015, and is currently 19 years old (55 hours played).
Title: the Barbarian of Brute Strength
Gender: Female
Level: 39
Class: berserker
And yes I reported the name because it bothered me. I dunno why lol just irked me so I reported it, but I left it at that, lol and from the looks of that he was never renamed. |

"Loreal" actually isn't against the rules which is why it was never forced changed by the Imms.

But you guys should always feel free to send a complaint for names that taint you're playing experience and we'll review and take care of it accordingly. |

You mean when I had a halfling thief named Wisames Geegam, it went against the rules? What about my friend Dorfo Gabgins? And our quest to find "The One Ring"? |

I like this feedback. I don't think there's a compelling reason why the Imms shouldn't strive to name our test characters accordingly so it doesn't break immersion for everyone. *cough Dasboop cough* |
