So this is my latest bird-brained RP command idea. Basically, you get a "mood".
- mood reflects what socials you are allowed to use, to some extent
- mood wears off after some time (30 mins)
- some socials, skills, songs, spells, change mood. obviously if you used berserk you should stay perma-angry or some shit.
Example usage.
Code: |
> mood happy
Mood set to happy.
> smile (a mood-affected social)
You smile happily.
> sniff
You sniff, tears of joy in your eyes.
> sulk (a mood-changing social)
You sulk in the corner.
Your mood is now sulky.
> sniff
You sniff and roll your eyes.
> smile happy
You smile happily.
Your mood is now happy.
(time passes)
You no longer feel as sulky.
|
Pretty much.. that's it. Bulk of the work is in pretty much this (and this is where our discussion picks up)..
* making a list of moods (first priority)
* choosing which socials are mood-affected (i.e. accept arguments) and which simply change mood
* ideas for the model itself |

Why restrict what you can/can't use?
Can other people see that you're happy/sulky?
Why not use emotes? |

it hasn't been done yet.
some moods: Happy, sad, angry, pained (For use with low health? auto when your health is in red?), exhausted, hyper sarcastic
socials: accept accuse agree anticipate apologize applaud beam beg bite bkiss bleed blink blush boggle bonk bow cheer
chuckle clap confused congratulate contemplate curtsey dance danger
daydream disgust embrace eyebrow faint flinch frown gasp glare
grin groan hand headtoss hiss hug impatient innocent
insane kiss knee laugh lick love moan mull mutter nibble nod
nudge nuzzle pace pant pat peck ponder pout punch scoff scowl scuff
shrug sigh slap smile snap spank stare sulk support tackle thank think tweak twitch view wait wave wince wink wonder
those are all the ones that have possabilities to me.

Yeah you can just emote everything... the point of the socials is to save having to emote common stuff like nods. But theyre a little dumb. Besides that, if we can get more people actually using socials (because theyre smarter) they might actually try emotes as well, instead of nothing. Emoting = typing |

Ok. There's the 3rd question. What about the first two? |

The idea was we discuss it not you just throw questions at me about it, as if I had the answers. |

Maybe you can incorporate it with char creation. Not so much a permanent mood as much as a default one. Like making a fire giant with an often angry disposition. So when in default, their regular socials are affected by the disposition like:
smile
<blah> gives a sarcastic smile.
grin
<blah> grins evilly.
Maybe eventually have it affect adrenaline. An normally angry person's adrenaline is more likely to become active (or at least active longer) than a normally happy person's.
Edit: That could give more play (adrenaline stuff too) to the mind altering substances in the game, like getting drunk (depressant, slows things down, maybe slows activity of adrenaline), or Aruncus' cigar (all that high stuff).
Like angry mood + drunk = mellow(normal) adrenaline
or sad mood + cigar = mellow(normal) adrenaline
Now I know stuff like that is prolly not likely to happen, thought just hit me though. |

I don't like that because lots of times charactors change over the duration of their lives. Someone who started off happy and set their mood as happy could end theirs lives as a really nasty person. Or they could be like bipolar or something and have sudden mood changes.
I know I stuck alot of socials on there, but I'd be more than willing to help rewrite them for moods. Gimme the okay to start doing it and a few weeks and I'll see what I can come up with... |

Maybe mood shouldn't be set during char creation, but in game itself. You see, this brings me an idea; Lookere:
mood happy -
smile:
> You smile happily.
grin:
> You flash a set of teeth in a toothy grin.
snarl:
> You mimic a wolf as you bare your teeth.
____________
mood angry -
smile:
> Your lips part in a sardonic smile.
grin:
> You grin evilly.
snarl:
You snarl and narrow your eyes etc..
____________
That little exerpt would take a lot of re-making of socials, but that would bring a VAST change to current emotes and emoticons, because different mood affect your actions and feelings, as what will really happen in real life. |

You brought up an excellent point Amdorin.. we have spells like 'accession' and 'enlarge' .. and bard songs like 'broken spirit'. Skills called 'berserk'. And of course adrenaline itself is a bit of a panic. Those can all easily alter moods.
I'd like to get the moods thing up and running before we worry about enhancement with new objects/spells, but its a logical next step to have drugs mess with it. |

i'm really excited about this. And I totally agree with Xaz about characters moods changeing. One of mine went from happy to devistated throughout her life time...and yeah. I'll be happy to help Xaz with whatever she's working on...when she gets around to it. Get back with me on that one dearest! |

So far I have 8 certain moods:
happy/sad/angry/confused/afraid/weak/strong/guilty
Other moods can be categorised into those in varying intensities (mild/medium/high). For example ... terrified = high version of "afraid", ecstasy = high version of "happy". So, I'm thinking we'll need to have mood + intensity to make the socials pleasing and simple to use.
There are also misc moods that I can't really place, e.g. boredom, most seem to fall into that top 8 though. This seem right? If so we can start classifying socials I guess |

Ok before I talk..
Will I have to type mood happy before I can smile?
Why waste time coding social classifications? Add in that tattoo shop we talked about years ago lol! |
