this is boring, looking for ideas to make it less boring and maybe not take 100 hours to train an invoker (i know we can train in downtime between levelling)
will write more here later
ideas
* read a book in game for a skillup (once) or affinity (longer)
* animal experimentation on mice or kittens
* catchup bonus if you overlevel a spell
* spend pracs to get past 75
* a spell that forces you to exclaim spell words as you parry
* cast spells in a sequence given by an instructor mob to get lessons |

I like the catchup bonus. Casting a spell you learned 5 or more levels ago has a scaling bonus to improve on cast that maxes out around +15 levels or so. |

I could probably work that last idea into the stuff I'm working on. We have the tools to make that happen.
What about an item that would whisper your spells at you in your sleep to either improve your chances at learning or maybe get a skill up. |

How about slaying the elemental ruler increases your lowest spell of that element.
You want to master lightning bolt, either do it normally or kill the lightning ruler 25 times.
Now you want to master hell stream, but you have not trained Faerie fire and only learned flame arrow. You have to do it normally or kill the fire ruler 150 times, 100 for Faerie fire, 25 for flame arrow and 25 for your trained hell stream.
The risk here would be someone could kill the fire ruler 300 times to master hell stream and not use any practices on those spells, but lower players should have no issue finding a fiery dagger.
Just an idea. |

Using a magic completion item (scroll, wand, etc) could also give you a chance to get better at the spell. |

@Vevier that's a good idea, consumables need more love. I do need to point out not all spells have wands or scrolls. |

most spells are super easy to train, its just a matter of mana pool and regen. I'd look for a way to improve the ones with a high cooldown. Communion anyone? |

Again, just from use, they master. by 100-150 hours, sanctuary, protective shield and what ever big spell is generally mastered from use, no training needed |

I thought there was an echo chamber in the high tower that reflected spells/words or whatever. increasing training proficiencies. maybe I heard about that in another game. |

I think mikoos is on to something here. It would be cool to have libraries in the HTOS where each class could research their spells for improving. Maybe up to a cap so you can't master it without casting it, 95% or something. We could have a little minigame, sort of like fishing or forging, where you're reading through the books and have to hit timers to make logical connections. The longer you go, the better chance you have at improving in a given time period. If you break your reading/research concentration with 'where' or eating it resets your bonus. This method should be overall faster (33%? 50%?) than just spellspamming and sleeping up because it's more active. And we shouldn't take anything away from spellspamming for people who just want to do it that way.
Anyway, that's just my brainstorm. What do you guys think? |

walk into the high tower of sorcery, pay for a lesson somehow (relics / gold?) and then an instructor would cast a spell, a class of students would sit and cast the same spell 4-5 times and occasionally fall asleep. so you have to pay attention and wake them up. and you can learn insights from watching every student caster. lessons last one hour. |

I guess I was on crack. The idea was to enter a magical room which would split you into different versions of yourself. (I guess from other dimensions.) Then each version would cast a spell in unison and have shared learning multiplied by the number of versions of self. |

Will this affect clerics? If so that'd be great for giant clerics. Also, can dumber classes just one prac and minigame the rest of the way?
I'm assuming you can't just minigame it from 1%.. that'd just be too broken. |

It would be cool for clerics to have somewhere similar they could train, but I don't think the HTOS is the right place. |

i think this'll be offered for certain spells. maybe not lightning bolt and shit like that. some stuff you can spam in combat and thats healthy. you have no choice with armor, cancellation, sanc, word of recall, etc. i dont think this'ld be a route to getting tons of maledictions to 100% easily, but the catchup thing would help there. we do actually already have a catchup thing. |

I think creating a room with increased regeneration and a permenant dummy that you can only enter without adrenaline would be perfect for improving spells. |
