Libera's life started out as an oddity. He had no name until he chose it
for himself. He was always known as 'boy' when he was growing up. But such
was a common thing in his society, what was uncommon was that Libera was an
orphan. The village started out as a small, very well hidden village in a
far off land. It was hidden behind magicks more powerful than most thing
they could be. Over time, the village grew into a metropolis, and its
presence to the outside world was becoming harder to conceal. The people of
the town, mostly scribes and scholars who studied the arcane arts, beseeched
the aid of the dragons. The dragons gave their aid, judging that the people
of the city Utoarc and found that they were in dire need of aid. This
moment led to a strong bond between men and dragon to form in the city. In
adopting some of some of the dragon's customs, the humans let their young
name themeselves as they came to age.
That is where Libera's life comes into play. He was a young boy, showing
special skills in the art of invoking the elements, more so playing with
lightning during the desert storms that were often caused due to the latent
arcane energy in the area. The boy was a wild card, one no one could place.
He would be a bully one moment then that person's defender the next. He was
a deeply troubled youngster, having no recollection of his parents and even
having a scar on the back of his hand since birth. When Libera came of age,
he chose his name due to the fact that when he spoke to the grand elder, the
dragon mentioned that his soul seemed to be always wandering.
Soon after that, the event that changed Libera's life happened. The boy was
doing something that he normally always did, playing with the lightning
during a storm. With one bolt, the scar on his hand started to burn and
caused Libera to lose his focus, launching the bolt down a street as it
arced and slew humans and dragon alike. Libera didn't seemed phased as
there was a voice inside him that told him to do it again, he reached for
another bolt as it soon came to him and he toyed with it again as this time,
he launched the bolt down another street. Libera's hand was burning now,
the scar an itchy, puffy red thing. It was swollen and pulsed angrily. The
boy rubbed it trying to distract from the pain as he blacked out.
When Libera came to, the city that took him in and raised him had been
decimated. The entire area around him was torn apart as some of the sandy
parts had fresh glass on them. Libera looked up to the skies, noticing that
the storm was raging much worse than it should have been. There were bolts
of lightning dancing and striking everywhere around him. He wandered
through the town, trying to find another person, but all he found was
corpses of humans and dragons alike. He then heard a loud roar erupt from
the temple. Libera turned, knowing that it belonged to the grand elder who
was now flying towards the boy. The dragon spoke in a dark, angry sounding
tongue, one that Libera was not familiar with. The dragon then breathed out
a beam of black light, which was something Libera found odd. The light
covered the area Libera was in as he felt his body slowly fade. The boy
blacked out again. When he awoke, Libera saw he was floating on a piece of
driftwood beside a dock that lead into a darkened town.
The path to Redemption
Libera, while at age most adventurers start at, was soon and rather
unexpectedly inducted as a member of Legion. He was trying to learn both
his duties to the Dark Army and learn further in his guild at this time.
And during such, friends were not a luxury he was afforded. He tried his
best to seek out mastery over the elements. When he was able to focus fully
on his duties to the Legion, here was much he was still learning of and with
no one to guide him, the journey was difficult.
Libera eventually met with other members of the Legion, particularly the
most senior officer, Gaelyn. He felt something off about him, but as Gaelyn
was his superior he obeyed and learned. There was not much where the turned
paladin could teach the young invoker, and so the boy was often left to fend
for himself. He tried to fight when he could, beat those back who sought
him out or retreating tactically to better fight another day. He soon grew
into a lull, where there wasn't much for him in Legion. He felt something
inside him churning.
Upon travelling alone he noticed an influx of decrees and newcomers to the
Legion. Gaelyn had become the Forsaken of the Legion. Libera was surprised
and attacked by Balan, a General of Valour. He fled with haste, knowing
from past experience that the storm giant was too strong for him to face
alone. He managed to make it safety when he heard the voice of Olyn in his
mind. Not long after, Balan spoke with the Libera.
After talking with Balan and the storm giant showing Libera what all he
could have in life, life in Valour as one who protects as opposed to one who
fights. Libera decided to forsake Gaelyn, the Legion, Nycticora and Darkhan
to become one with the Light. He knelt down and swore himself as a follower
to Olyn. His path to redemption starting.
Living a full life
Life had been going good for Libera since after he had cast of the bonds
of Darkness, leaving behind his former life and ideology. He was lost on
what to do for a while, wandering around, watching and waiting for the
Legion to come after the mark on his head. It was soon after he had
thought, that life wasn't meant to be lived in fear. He desired to go out
and live his life however it may be. He started with a simple choice,
joining the Heralds. It was a long process, after becoming one; it seemed
he was still lost, trying to find his way about his new place of being.
It wasn't too long after becoming a Herald though, that he was spoken to by
none other than Myria herself; the goddess coming forth, chastising him for
wrongs and doubts aside for a more understanding of what he can and should
do. It wasn't long after that he started to enjoy it, having fun and
scribing all sorts of stories, gossip and news. He diligently began to
work, seeking to further himself as a writer and a reporter. He enjoyed the
company of many, and often found his time being in the public speaking to
those who would talk to him. He enjoyed living life, being with the
Knights, nobles, and various other citizens of different creeds and ethics.
It became soon apparent that his happy and fun life style wasn't fitting in
with his current deity.
He had been made a follower of Olyn the Lord of Salt and Sea after his
conversion. Then it was all he knew in life, now he knows of broader
horizons, and sought them out. He had begun to study again, learning of the
various religions he was now able to follow, and found that one was
ironically fit for him, was the none other than the Herald's Matron,
Vanisse. He thought to himself, how she was always his lucky charm, and a
guiding hand to further things.
He still studied the other religions, but none made it feel as right as
pursuing the path of following the Goddess of Luck.
I had some good times interacting with Libera. From fighting you on various characters, to role-playing your conversion to the light as Balan. Good times.
Not gonna lie, I was trying to move Heralds forward, but it was hard doing it with no one around. And whenever I was around on him, it kinda felt like I was beating a dead carcass with a stick. It just needs to be put to rest. I did have fun on Libera. I'm sorry for the sudden delete. He thus far my favorite character, but you can't keep it going forever.
One thing I did forget to say earlier, Vanisse, you do an amazing job. I'm not going to lie, there's a lot you did for me as a Herald and I'm not going to forget it. I want you to know that. You're awesome, and I always enjoy being a Herald when I roll one. To be honest, when I started Libera, I was gonna go either Mystic or Legion, but well, went Legion and everyone should know the story by now.
wow someone didn't take their fucking mood stabilizers this morning. anyway just wanted to say i enjoyed libera. i think your rp was really good although i don't know the whole story behind legion. tbh i'm confused how you would've gotten into legion as good?
Now that I'm not sleep-deprived I'll write a real post. I'll admit I was a little taken aback when I saw this guy in the graveyard without so much as a farewell note in-game. I do appreciate the effort that you put in, Libera, considering the limited number of active Heralds and far less support from me than either of us would have liked. For what you had you did a good job and I could see you were trying to mobilize things but were having some difficulty transferring the message. I'm sorry about being absent. While you say you appreciated the time that I put in, I get a little frustrated at myself that I wasn't present enough because we could have planned and done some amazing things. Unfortunately, at the moment I have a lot of things on my plate in real life so I am not around as frequently as I used to be. C'est la vie...
To any of you who have a Herald or would be interested in boosting the Herald population, Jaran has generously offered to lend some Imm support in addition to my random sightings. I'm not sure how much people are aware, but over the past year Dav put in a ton of time to improve the infrastructure and coded a lot of support for Heralds, including but not limited to publications, Mystique, and events; in-game, I've redone the Theran/Serin Race, there is Gnome flinging for events that are ready made. Essentially at this point we have this fancy sandbox with toys in it and all we need is people who are creative and want to build castles for everyone to play with. Ideas off the top of my head are hosting a monk-themed opener event, religion-themed events (I've talked with a few of you about this already), Chase the Quasit. The possibilities are endless. So are the possibilities for RP. I've noticed that the Mystics have begun to incorporate their cabal affiliations in a really great way and are assuming roles within the cabal as intermediaries. Cabal-affiliated Heralds could do propaganda wars, like Charlie Hebdo type satire, whatever you decide. You guys have great ideas, just run with them.
Anyways, Libera, so long, and thanks for all the fish.
Loved playing with Liberia across multiple characters he always was positive and willing to help, can't wait to see what's in store on your next keep them coming
