I could make an article telling people, in great detail, how to fight ills but then there wouldn't be any more point in making an ill. |
I still think your first instinct was right. I hope you reconsider writing and publishing your 'How to fight an Illithid' article.
What might be good is to publish bits and pieces of it in the Herald' Mystique newspaper? Or stand at North Square and charge gold for hints? Or give Mundo some clues that people can buy and the hint is randomly really fantastic or terrible.
Anyway my 2 cents. |

Hmmm, weird, I thought these boards were ok to make edits as long as others hadn't posted after.
Anyway, forget about the Mundo idea. What would be good would be if you could make an expert character, sort of like Buffy the Vampire Killer but instead of vampires you would become known through the lands as Kalist the Illithid killer. And instead of killing those things, people could seek you out for advice on how to kill them. You could make a fortune and it would be educational without giving away the illithid secrets to the whole world at once. Nadrin had an wise, old ranger Justice character that appeared every now and again with great tips and advice and it was really helpful, so I see the Illithid expert a bit like that but appealing to a more widescale audience because the information that character holds would be unique, one of a kind. |

I've actually been logging some hours on my ancient elf paladin recently.
Tiqa you are, as always, the sober voice of reason. No point in ruining illusionists just because a couple people are being trolls.
P.S. Pip, you troll, I was playing ills while you were in elementary school. |

That's not what I meant. Dying to an Ill at all shows your noobness. They are the single easiest class to evade in the entire game. |
terrain -> misdirection -> dispel magic -> 3 hasted dupes. that's easy to evade? |

Yeah it is.....why are you sitting there letting him walk in on you with all his dupes and fully prepared? If you get fully spelled up while he has three dupes, you deserve to die (and there's a good chance you will). He has no choice but to fight on your terms. You pick the area, you pick when to engage, use this control to your advantage. |

Not that Kalist was ever too hot with illusionists, he is right, you just run around until the dupes start to go, then get 'em. Also, y'know, mental saves so misdirection doesn't land first shot, durr. Lots of that flee murder action. Ills are stupid easy to beatdown. Just slightly trickier to get the kill on. |

I think Erlwith's point is if you actually want to kill an illusionist you will have to fight the dupes. I've played lots of ill's and if you wait for the dupes to drop - I'm out - and good luck catching me. If an Ill waits around and fights without them he deserves the flee murder death that awaits. |

It's pretty hard to stack enough saves to deal with a 12 mental break and 38 save loss from dreamstruck. If you want to give up that amount of saves, then you're probably not doing enough damage to seal the deal. |
