I am guessing that my memories might not be that great. I seem to remember sometime around 1994 getting on my first MUD, and 1996-7 as the start of my random times becoming totally frustrated with AR. What about you??
Of course, the player base was insane back then. So much so that poking your head out of a rabbit hole would likely get it taken off. |

Started on text-based games in 2000 (Zork and some other Infocom text adventures, and some of Scott Adams's text adventures too), started playing MUDs in 2007. Started off at Carrion Fields because they had a built-in web client. Around January of 2010, Carrion Fields was down and I looked for another MUD. I discovered AR after searching; I found it some time in the spring of 2010, but my first major character here (Seliwyn) was created on May 1st, 2010. |

Wanna say my first go round with AR was around 1998-99. Definitely forever ago...
Trying to get my daughter and cousin into the idea now. So hard to sell the concept of a game without "graphics" to a younger generation though.
If only they knew... |

2005 for me also. Really the only text game I’ve ever played. |

Late 90s i think, back when you got obsidian bracers from griffins in the tree tops, now it is the cloud castle.
Edit: before weapon styles and everyone was kicking dirt. |

I actually started in 1997, the same year AR began. AR was my first MUD, I chose it because it had the first name in the zmud list that wasn't stupid looking and obviously cheating to appear at the top of the list (looking at you Aardvark) |

I started in 2001. I used to play this game called Vagabonds quest that was somewhat similar to AR in that you typed to get where you wanted, but it wasn't actually a MUD per se. Also, you couldn't just attack people, you had to challenge them to duels. It was basically a chatroom where you created a character, explored the limited rooms, and always had a view of what characters were online. That game shut down around 2000 and so I had to find a new DnD-esque game to sate my appetite for fantasy driven adventures.
I haven't actually played in a while, and am somewhat interested in returning once I have a stable connection that doesn't also kick me off after an hour.
My last character was pretty much a test for druids (something I've been waiting FOREVER to try out). You might have seen him, but he wasn't really notable in any way. Kayn, Were-Falcon Druid Rank 50 that I had hoped to keep alive but got incredibly busy with life. |

First day I logged in as a bard I thought the ability to make a torch was so cooooool. I was at a temple, maybe neutral or evil in seringale and a justice with a V name summoned a shield of justice "soo cooooool." Then vanisse came and was talking to him. My first ar memories |

Never forget lvl 13 Fire Giant DK begging for Red Dragon armour, then spamming lightning bolt at people!
Thought that was the height of coolness, ambushing n00bs, when in reality I didn't know a damn thing.
Some monk chased me "all the way" from Seringale to the tenders up near Mansion... haha, was blown away anyone could ever track all that way...
Good times. 97/98 for sure. |
