|
|
When the board was put in at North Square I had higher hopes of the possibilities.
Currently, the one and only post on the board is ... picture of sorrowful bear with black spots on his eyes... Probably that is some role play message but all I can think of is #cecilthelion #bantrophyhunting.
Would be nice if the board was 2-way communication. That might risk people leaving OOC messages, but that could be monitored. The board is such a great feature, would be nice if it was more useful, interesting and interactive. |

allowing anyone beyond a certain level maybe 50 only to post on it would be a really neat feature |

If nobody is even using it then making it more open might actually be good, as long as it isnt an anonymous board. |

I agree, why not open it up? It provides opportunity for more roleplay. Someone could abuse it, sure. But with a small playerbase it's not as likely and anyone abusing it would be easy to catch. |

I would have to say people who are on a character that is account verified as 'reputable' then sure, they earn their cookie to write on a board. |

it would be neat if when you looked at the board it was like a mini notice board, so instead of reading all the messages you would see something like:
Notice Board
[Herald Updates]
Latest News: Blahdy blah has gone on a rampage
Current Event: Gnome Flinging in Seringale
Upcoming Events: Cake Eating Contest
Latest Postings:
- Ibrayin posted "Gnome Hunting Party Wanted"
- Sylos posted "Caw Caw"
- Naredak posted "My Poem about Wilty Flowers I Wasn't Drunk When I Wrote"
e.g. the upper section would still be the same herald scribe board, but you could attach posts onto it like mini notes that people can read. not sure how this would be coded but that would be nice.
btw allowing use of real-time dates would help this a lot, so we can preface the post with a date so people know if it's been recently updated or not (sucks to respond to a 3 month old posting). thoughts from the peanut gallery? i find working with in-game time utterly confusing and was revisiting this awkwardness tonight when writing helpfiles for holiday events. |

Code: |
The Celestials are:
Mercy (January), Order, Tyranny, Prudence, Life, Tolerance (June),
Piety, Malice, Death, Retribution, Disregard, Vanity (December)
|
renewal=day of month |

>post edit
(opens note editor)
>post show
(shows post)
>post format
(formats post)
>post to board
Bob adds a posting on the bulletin board.
(adds post to bulletin board - must be in same room as board) |

tieing something that is supposed to enhance roleplay to ooc registration sounds silly but i will say maybe add a line of quests that will give you the key to unlock (must be 40+) the board and post on it - that is if we want to create some hoops for people to jump through to post. |

Well, I'm not entirely convinced that posting should require jumping through hoops, as long as we have post delete capability for imms (and possibly heralds) so we can remove crappy posts (e.g. spam, ooc, flaming rants).
The main question is what would you guys use the board for? If it's going to have some rp uses, then putting a high level restriction doesn't seem necessary or desired since we want to foster that at all ranks. I'd put the barrier much lower, at say 10 or 20. This involves a good amount of mutual trust and respect to assume no one's going to abuse it and post something that ruins everyone who reads it's experience until a moderator manages to clean up.
Another option could be, once you have posted on the board it isn't shown until someone validates it, but that requires more work on our side. So idk which is preferable. For now I just think about how to put it together and you folks can keep discussing.
note to self: post delete capability |

I like the idea of a quest to do, but I think it should be a low level one.
People I would allow to write:
All heralds
All mystics
All patrons
Bards
Anyone who does the stupid quest which is to like prove that you can write to Istina or something. |

I think Vevier's suggestion is too restrictive. Opening up the board to everyone (I'd say anyone level 10 and above) means there might occasionally be some trash posts or spam, but it would get resolved quickly and nobody would even care.
But it would also create opportunities for roleplay. Someone might just post a "Hello world" type message. I.e. "Beware Thera there is a new, super spooky necromancer in town! Fear me! - Bob the lvl 10 Necromancer". That at least is some roleplay. That's establishing your character in a way that gets other players to know what you're about. Now people can have a backstory, advertise it, and nobody will be able to complain on the forums when they silent trash kill the entire PK range at level 25. They can just point to their board post and be like "See. Roleplay."
But seriously I can imagine lots of ways to roleplay through the board. Shamans could post crazy rantings about the will of his evil God, urging people to join his cult. Herald wannabes can post their lame limericks. A dark knight can post that he's going to viciously kill every person he sees that doesn't personally send him a note pledging their fealty and obedience. The possibilities are endless.
Considering how much opportunity this provides, when you weigh that against the measly risk that someone might spam or the occasional flaming rant, I think the benefits outweigh the risks. Make the board as open as possible. I say anyone lvl 10 or above. |
